Carissa referred you to us. She was one of our best employees and we're so sad that she
moved on but I hope she's doing well. Oh she's doing amazing and she had nothing but the best
things to say about you guys. I'm super excited to be here and thank you again for making the time.
Of course. Can I see your resume? Ah yes just a moment. There it is. Oh look at that. You don't
see paper resumes as often anymore. It's pretty impressive. So why don't I start by telling you
a little bit about our workplace. Yeah sure. So we're we like to have work-life balance so we have
a huge bank of paid time off as well as vacation as well as various competitive
benefits to make sure our employees are well taken care of. Of course that also means that
when employees are taking care of themselves, they're taking care of themselves. They're
are at work we expect them to give it their all as it should be right and then
of course there's the more nuanced aspects of our company culture that
involves some unique workplace practices I'm sure if Carissa yes she did tell me
and I have zero problem with it oh great now let me ask you how would you
characterize your managerial style I would say that I'm pretty hands-off
unless something needs my direct intervention otherwise I really try to
empower my subordinates to figure out ways to do things on their own but also
let them know that if they need my guidance I'm right here so I would call
it like a open-door policy
for lack of a better term great and I see it you raise company stocks 35% why
don't you tell me how you were able to do that yes I'm actually very very very
proud of that it was an incredible opportunity how did you come about that
exactly yeah so what I did is I did targeted research on the buyers in the
area and I saw who was
in the area and I saw who was in the area and I saw who was in the area and I saw who was
investing in a noticeable amount of warehouse space you can find those type
of statistics on like these corporate registries so from there I was able to
craft a proposal that really maximized their value and boosted their liquidity
Wow that's ingenious you can certainly use that kind of out-of-the-box thinking
over here can you tell me about your past work experience that allowed you to
come up with such a plan
yeah so I was in market analytics you know staring at spreadsheets all day
until they start looking like modern art oh I know that feeling at some point
some point you start seeing stock charts in your dreams exactly but that work
really helped me sharpen my abilities to spot patterns and think strategically
and before that I was in business development
which really helped me get creative with outreach.
You could say I'm kind of an expert at writing emails that don't get immediately deleted.
You should put that on your resume.
I don't have it on here already?
Oh shoot, well both roles really taught me how to blend data with strategy
and that's how I was able to create such a good acquisitions proposal.
And let's switch to something more creative.
How do you handle conflict?
I can't say that I'm a fan of curveballs,
but I do enjoy the opportunity to overcome obstacles with creativity.
Like if something is not going as planned,
I really like coming up with ways
that I can do that.
Where we could make it maybe even better than before.
I love to hear it.
I love someone who is really quick on their feet.
You know, I do my best.
The corporate world kind of requires me to be sharp at all moments.
And what brought you to the corporate world?
Like what was the most interesting thing?
I would just say new ways of thinking.
I was in a more creative field.
And I came into corporate for, you know, a better paycheck to be completely transparent.
But I was able to find ways to bring my creative thinking into the corporate office.
Nice.
We really like out-of-the-box thinkers here.
And people who are more open to different kinds of living and thinking.
Oh yeah, of course.
I feel like that's super important.
Um,
there is this one partnership deal that I did.
The client seemed super enthusiastic too.
I spent weeks writing this proposal.
I had compelling data.
I had lots of research in there and a few metaphors too.
Oh, I love metaphors.
But unfortunately, after spending all those weeks on that proposal,
my prospect said that they already changed their mind.
So, I really need to learn how to check in and see if the deal is still on the table.
Oh my god, I'm so sorry to hear that.
It didn't go to waste though.
So, what are some qualities that you're looking for in your top candidates?
We're definitely looking for people who are team players.
Um, I stress creativity a lot.
Um, and definitely like out of...
Um, I stress creativity a lot. Um, and definitely like out of...
Um, and definitely like out of... Um, and definitely like out of...
Um, and definitely like out of...
Not your traditional employee, but also those who love to excel.
Because we love promoting within the company.
So, we want somebody also that wants to stay with us for a while.
Because we're all friends here.
We want to all grow up together.
I love hearing that you're not outsourcing your top positions.
And that you're like really concentrating on the people that are already here.
The accomplishments that they're achieving.
While at your company and congratulating them for that.
That's, I really love hearing that.
And not to brag or anything, but I think of myself as someone who can creatively problem solve.
As I've already told you before.
And that's definitely one of our like top characteristics we want.
Because you never know what's going to go on day to day.
Oh yeah, 100%.
I thought the corporate world was going to be like...
It's going to be so structured.
And we try to be, right?
But we can't predict everything.
And that's where creativity comes in.
Yeah, and you never...
You never know who...
What comp...
Other comp...
Like who you're working with is going to close down.
If their management changes.
And so, we also like really friendly employees.
People who are able to get along with pretty much anyone.
And DS...
Like, I mean some people are a little problematic.
But de-escalation is a big part of our company motto.
I can see that.
I mean, frustrations can run high when you're all working on a common goal.
And it's not working out the way you want it to.
So, do you guys do any like team building trips?
Or team building exercises?
Or meetings?
Or how do you foster that environment?
So, about once a month we have a team building dinner.
I love taking...
I know everyone.
And we have this cute little card game that we play as like an intro before the food comes.
So, we...
I love that.
Is it sort of like an icebreaker game?
Getting to learn more about each other's personal lives?
Or do you guys keep it focused on the work environment?
A little bit of both.
Because as we're growing, we're obviously adding new people.
And so, we're about...
Adding about three people per quarter.
We're growing.
We're really big here.
I did do some research on your guys' corporation before I came here.
And I'm super impressed at the speed at which you guys have been able to expand.
I am curious.
Love this office and everything.
Are there any opportunities to maybe explore other cities to work in?
Like be trans...
It might be a little too early.
To be asking this.
But yeah, just curious if you're doing a lot of transfers with the expansion.
Yes.
We are...
We're thinking about expanding to a few cities.
But right now, we're just local to here.
Okay.
Good to know.
Good to know.
Actually, you can ask one of our employees right now.
Hi.
Oh, hi.
I'm Spencer.
What's your name?
I'm Ariel.
It's really nice to meet you.
It's nice to meet you, too.
How long have you been here?
Oh, God.
Who's counting, you know?
It's just such a wonderful, hospitable place to be employed at.
So, yeah.
You know, the days just sort of all roll together.
I heard your interview earlier.
You guys, you're just so talented.
Oh, my gosh.
Thank you so much.
I'm gunning for you.
I really hope you get the job.
Don't tell her.
I would really love to be part of this, especially hearing that the days just kind of unfold and
you're not keeping track.
Yes.
It means that it's not super long days that are agonizing and like you are enjoying the
environment here.
Yeah, no.
It's every day is just a gift.
You know, that's why it's called the present.
We're just so grateful to all really facilitate a healthy functioning ecosystem, you know,
in this office.
My goodness.
I mean.
And Ariel just got a raise, too.
Congratulations.
Thank you.
Thank you.
It's about time.
I'm so happy you could be here so I could get some insight from you, too.
Oh, yeah.
Insight.
It's so great that you brought that card game up that we played at the last function because
it really was a hoot and holler.
Do you play cards?
I'm a huge fan of Go Fish.
Oh, that's great.
I haven't played any of these like icebreaker games you guys are talking about.
It's normally just a standard deck.
Oh, yeah.
It's a real speciality here.
We're all about icebreakers and just, you know, getting to know your fellow employee,
your co-workers.
Especially because we like to keep them for a very, very long time.
Got a great pension here.
401 the whole thing.
Oh, I do want to hear more about that.
Well, you will when you work here.
Fair enough.
Fair enough.
I don't want to jump ahead.
That day will come.
We're hoping.
We're hoping.
Yeah.
Why don't you hop up here?
But yeah, I'm really excited to see how I would fit in here.
I'm not trying to assume that I already have the position.
I'm just getting really inspired being here.
Oh, yeah, for sure.
You'll fit in great.
I mean, everybody is.
It's nothing but good things about you.
And if you're anything like Carissa.
Well, Carissa's a hard act to follow.
Oh, my goodness.
She's incredible.
She was always such a goof at those retreats.
She really brought everyone together.
I credit her with so much help of understanding how to cooperate with people.
She's really a people person.
I imagine.
And if there is room for it, I don't know if you guys have a special sector that specifically
plans all the team building stuff, or if that's an effort of, you know, every single one of
you.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I mean, I would love to help coordinate anything like that, too.
I'm sorry.
I didn't catch your first question.
Oh, it's all good.
It's all good.
I was just asking if is there how else can I put this?
Do you guys have people specifically employed that are just focused on the team building
or is it kind of.
HR?
Oh, HR does that.
I should know that already.
I mean, I've been in the corporate world a little bit.
A little bit now, but I feel like five years.
I'm still not a veteran yet.
I mean, every big corporation should have an HR.
Oh, yeah, they do.
I just didn't know they did the team building thing.
Oh, yeah.
Speaking of what I could contribute, I have different experiences and different facets
of the corporate world.
So if you need me for more than one thing, I would be willing to, you know, work multiple
roles.
Well, let's not overwhelm you at first.
Very much.
Very true.
Once you get, we want to make sure that you like this job and not hate it for working
too many, putting on too many hats.
I see that a lot with other companies.
They like to abuse the fact that they're making so much money.
And so they have their employees work long hours and I kind of like the European style
of like four days a week.
Oh, I love that.
Absolutely love that.
Yeah, but for my impressions so far, that definitely sounds in line with what you guys
value and what Karissa told me as well.
And I really trust her insight with things.
Yeah, I tend to get a little bit ambitious.
I didn't mean to overwhelm with my offering or anything.
But yeah, I think this I'm getting really excited about this trying to contain my excitement
a little bit.
Oh, okay.
That's great.
Thank you so much.
Thank you so much.
You're such a lovely person.
Yep.
Well, love you.
Love you.
Love you.
lovely person. I'm really enjoying this interview. I have one more question for you.
Yeah, shoot. How would you say you handle conflict?
Ooh, are you speaking logistically or among co-workers?
How about we do both?
Okay, fair enough. So logistically, I feel like that one's fairly easy. You know, you just dig
into the data, you dig into the research, you ask around with your other co-workers and, you know,
understand more of what's going on and see if you can fix the issue just from gaining more
knowledge about the situation. So the logistics one comes pretty naturally to me. When it comes
to person-to-person conflict in the workplace, so and yeah, that's how I'd say I handle conflict.
Is there any other pressing questions that are on your mind right now?
Um, what about you? What kind of questions do you have as if we didn't touch on anything or?
Well, like I said before, my background is mainly in market analytics and business development.
And do you see any way I could help your company in its expansion with either of those skill sets?
I mean, we're always trying to expand and as long as you're creative enough and can see
different ways of, um,
collecting,
collaborating?
Yeah, 100%. I would say my business development background would definitely help with that.
And I would love to offer my skill set and my five years experience and, you know, see what it can do
for you guys. I was looking into the corporation a bit and I really value what you guys are doing.
And I think it's important.
Thank you. I really appreciate that. Um, have you ever started a company yourself or have you just
always been a business developer?
Yeah, I've always been working with other people.
I've flirted with the idea of starting my own company before.
Um, overhead is kind of scary to me, like starting it off at first.
Like I've kind of had a fear of failing, um, even though I've done so great for the companies I have worked for.
But yeah, I kind of prefer to follow somebody that already has a mission because I'm very good with picking apart where people can improve on things or where a corporation can improve on things.
Yeah.
So you would consider yourself a team player?
Oh, 100%. 100%. Like I was saying earlier about when you asked me about conflicts and like between employee to employee, we're all here for the same goal.
Oh, we've been talking about work so much. Why don't you tell me some of your hobbies?
Oh, some of my hobbies outside of work. I enjoy my job so much. I tend to work a lot off the clock.
And I know you said you don't want your employees.
I don't want to stress out or anything, but I really do truly enjoy that.
When I'm not spending my time, though, doing my market analytics and things like that, um, I've been learning how to crochet, actually.
I'm very much a beginner.
Um, so it kind of just helps me zone my mind into something else for a little bit when I have to force myself to stop working.
Well, you can definitely do that at your desk.
Really?
Yeah, because we like to have, um, creative like outlets.
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm.
Especially because, you know, you can get like a block anytime at work.
Instead of getting frustrated, like taking a quick little break on something that you enjoy.
Um, I actually do that at my desk all the time.
I picked up crocheting as well.
I saw a little kit to make a little plushie and it's a lot harder than I thought it would be.
Yeah, it's pretty difficult.
It's definitely good for what you were saying, getting your head off of something that was frustrating before.
And even though crochet itself can be frustrating.
At least you're not frustrated with your work.
And that it takes away from the work frustration.
I've never heard of a company doing that before.
Letting someone indulge in their hobbies while on the clock.
And I see how that could honestly improve the environment and improve the productivity within the company.
Yeah.
For sure.
It's very important to avoid burnout.
You know, we love what we do here, but it really, you know, it comes home with you sometimes, you know.
And it's got...
You've got to have that compartmentalization.
Where's work and where's pleasure?
It's so hard to tell.
For sure.
You know, after hearing all this, I feel like this will be a really healthy work environment for me to learn how to balance my work life.
Those logistics are something very essential to navigate, but I would say that my boss over here, she has created a work environment that is unlike any that I've worked in before.
This is all really exciting.
Thank you so much.
Well, you don't have to toot your own horn.
I will say, we do have one rule.
As much as we love music, those are headphones only.
Totally understandable.
Totally understandable.
There has to be compromise somewhere.
Not a terrible compromise to make.
No.
You big classical fan.
Um, what's that one's name?
Debussy?
Ah, classic.
Classic.
Yes, yes.
Oh.
Yeah, listening to classical is really good when I'm looking at the spreadsheets and it's almost like a movie track.
Is that how you've avoided burnout at your other jobs?
Are there any strategies you can use?
I've just been so passionate.
Yeah.
And I'm sure being five years in the corporate world now, that burnout will probably start to show up soon.
So I'm happy if I could, you know, make this my workplace.
And then if that burnout does happen, that I'm in such a supportive environment.
Yeah, for sure.
Support.
We have a great internal support system here.
Yes.
I really like to make sure my employees are taken care of.
I was already so interested in you guys from what Carissa told me and from my own research that I've done.
But being here, I'm very, very, very, excuse my language, fucking impressed.
Naughty.
Hi, man.
You can cuss here.
I was just about to ask.
I was like, oh, oopsie.
Did I make it?
Oopsie.
No, we're very casual here.
We like to be comfortable with each other.
As long as you're not rude or mean, just be yourself.
Yeah, there's no need for that.
Rude-ness or the mean-ness or anything.
Absolutely not.
And that is what I like.
Yeah.
That is one boundary that I have a very hard boundary with that.
The moment that you are rude to another person here, I want everyone here to feel safe and welcome and taken care of.
Totally understandable.
I do have a question for you, if you don't mind.
So I was wondering, we've been doing the interview now for a little bit and gotten an impression of each other.
So I was curious as to whether you have any concerns about me joining the team from what you've learned about me so far.
We would definitely love to have you on the team.
I'm sorry.
You said you were already interested.
Yeah.
We would love to have you on the team.
Are you still currently at your old place of work?
Yes.
How would we?
But yeah, I found that when I go to corporate interviews and I've already quit my job before, they're curious.
They're like, well, why aren't you working right now?
What went wrong?
And I don't like to talk down on other companies.
So I try to avoid those questions as much as possible.
But yeah, I just I really see an opportunity to maximize my skill set more so here than where I'm currently at.
And actually, one last question.
Why is it that you are looking to leave your current employer?
I just find it a better opportunity, like I said, with the skill set that I have and with you guys expanding and my background in business development and the skills I've developed with creative outreach.
I really think I could be an essential part of helping you guys expand even more.
Amazing.
And let's see.
Not to interrupt, but I do think that you sound like a perfect fit for this company.
You are certainly overqualified, but your skill set is going to be a major asset should the employment process work in your favor.
I'm really flattered to hear that.
And I feel like there's so much praise.
There's so much praise within this company for each other and appreciation.
This is this is beautiful.
We've all got a huge price kink here.
And actually, now I think about it, we're planning on having a team building workshop this weekend.
And I know like you, you're still going to you'll still be at your other employer for the next two weeks.
But I'd love for you to come and check it out.
And get well acquainted with everyone.
Yeah, I think that's an excellent idea to go ahead and introduce myself before if I am able to join the team.
Yeah, I think that'd be really good to just meet everyone in a casual environment first.
Do you guys have any particular plans for the next team building thing?
Are you doing the card game again?
Or do you kind of switch it up sometimes?
So this one is our dinner.
We do do four vacations every every quarter.
We like to plan a little like we can get away.
But this one's local and we'll be eating dinner at the new Asian fusion place that opened up.
I don't know if you saw that, but like a month ago.
Oh, I haven't heard of this place yet.
So at these team building things, is there a policy to where you can't talk about work?
Or is that encouraged?
We do kind of like to stray away from the stressors of work.
But any like positives, you are surely allowed to bring up.
But it's more of a...
Yeah.
It's becoming closer with the people.
I could see how it's really healthy.
And I think that'll help me grow my work life balance as well.
Like I told you before, I just can't stop working sometimes, right?
Right.
So I'll send you over the paperwork in your email.
If you could just write down, or actually it's on your resume, right?
Your email?
Oh, yeah, of course it is.
Yes.
Perfect.
I really appreciate you taking the time to do this interview today.
And go so in depth with everything.
And let me meet some of your employees.
Hey, speaking of which, you were incredible.
It was so wonderful to meet you.
Nice to meet you.
I gotta get out of here.
I got some files to file.
Goodbye.
She's amazing.
She really is.
Well, it was such a pleasure to meet you.
I'll send over the paperwork tonight.
And hopefully we'll see you Saturday.
Are you saying I got the job?
Yeah, of course.
I wouldn't want anyone else.
I'm very enthused.
I'll put in my two weeks tomorrow.
And yeah, then we can just correspond through email, phone calls, whatever works best for
you on our next steps.
Yes.
And hopefully we'll see you Saturday?
Oh, yes.
That's right.
Oh, I can't play the .
Yes, that's right.
You're so nice.
You're so nice.
Thank you.
Bye.
Bye.
Bye.

Thank you guys.
No worries.
No worries.
This was awesome.
I will walk you out.
Yes.
And just get the paperwork back to me within the next two weeks.
Totally doable.
Thank you so much.
Of course.
